The World Equestrian Games are comprised of the world championships for eight equestrian sports. The Games are held every four years, two years prior to the Olympic Games, and are governed by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI).

USEF Announces 2009 Equestrians of Honor; Voting Open for the USEF Equestrian of the Year

Steffen Peters named one of 7 USEF Equestrians of Honor.

With the close of the 2009 competition year and in anticipation of the United States Equestrian Federation's annual Pegasus Awards celebration in January, the Federation is proud to announce the candidates in line to become the coveted 2009 Equestrian of the Year.

 
Known as the USEF Equestrians of Honor, these seven stars of equestrian sport across breed and discipline have each been named recipients of one of seven different competitive trophies awarded during the Pegasus Awards on January 16 at the Downtown Marriot in Louisville, KY.


The 2009 Equestrians of Honor are:

USET Foundation Awards 2009 - Whitney Stone Cup to McLain Ward

Gladstone, NJ - November 20, 2009 -  The USET Foundation is pleased to announce that the Whitney Stone Cup has been awarded to McLain Ward of Brewster, NY. The Whitney Stone Cup is awarded annually by the USET Foundation Executive Committee to an active competitor who displays consistent excellence in international competition, high standards of sportsmanlike conduct, while also serving as an ambassador for the United States and equestrian sport.

 

The Whitney Stone Cup is given in honor of the late Whitney Stone, who served as President and Chairman of the Board of the USET. Whitney Stone led the USET from 1953 to 1973. He was instrumental in the creation of a civilian team when the Army retired from competitive horse sports after 1948.
